Vatican’s help to Rome : turns off historic fountains  in solidarity

Religion world is reporting continuously how Indian religious and spiritual organisation have become a saviour to thousands of people who are facing the wrath of heavy rainfall in various parts of India. Amidst these heartfelt stories, a new story has emerged from spiritual home of the worlds 1.2 billion Catholics. This time its Vatican that has emerged as saviour to people of Rome facing drought. Thus  living in solidarity with the people of Rome nearly 100 fountains are turned off.

Extreme heat conditions in summer and lower than average rainfall resulted in drought affecting the Rome and nearby areas. This forced the Italian capital to close drinking fountains and consider the prospect of water rationing.

Though its a bizaare look, the two beautiful 17th century fountains  also stood dry in the famous St Peter’s Square in Vatican. The sculptors, Carlo Maderno and  Gian Lorenzo Bernini would have never thought that these fountains would be a symbol of solidarity as they  were used to be  source of drinking water for the tourists besides admiration and now  source of hope for the people of Rome who are facing water crisis .

Pope Francis has always supported the great cause of saving the planet and its resources and this decision to turn off fountains in Vatican city is in line with Pope’s thinking on ecology. You can’t waste and sometime you have to be willing  to make a sacrifice.
