Cheti Chand, Sindhi New Year celebration at Sadhu Vaswani Mission

Cheti Chand- the Sindhi New Year, was welcomed amidst love, light and devotion at the Sadhu Vaswani Mission, Pune on the Sunday 7th April, 2019.
A mounted dais was created and on the pedestal was a life-like portrait of Jhulelal Saenji. Lit before him was a luminous lamp in which shone the portrait in its divine element. The décor was simple yet magnificent its own light. On entering the Mission, everyone bowed down to Jhulelal Saenji as they joined in the programme. Likewise a picturesque rangoli’s depicting the Sindhi Culture, at the entrance of the Mission, welcomed devotees attending the Cheti Chand function.
This was followed by soulful vocal rendition by Manjushree Assudani Tejwani who ushered in an atmosphere of sheer divinity.
Next was an address by the compere who spoke of Sindhi’s and their culture and how they have managed to survive the several ebbs and flows of the partition, relinquishing their lives and properties in Sindh and emerging victorious from all the ordeals while carving a niche for themselves as a community of recognized businessmen who always engage in charitable activities. This was followed by a short skit.
Finally, it was time for the messages by the Masters. A Sindhi Upadesh by Gurudev Sadhu Vaswani and Rev. Dada J.P. Vaswani was played. Rev. Dada’s Upadesh on Cheti Chand was on the topic of ‘the balance sheet of life’. He said how there was a devotee who sing a song always, ‘the festivities of the Sindhi’s are everlasting’. He urged everyone to give up one evil habit and imbibe one good habit and the one habit everyone should cultivate was that of seeing the good in everyone.
The programme concluded with the serving of prasad.
About Cheti Chand
Cheti Chand is celebrated as New Year’s Day by the Sindhi community. According to the Hindu calendar, it is celebrated on the second day of the Chaitra month known as Chet (in Sindhi). Hence, it is known as CHET-I-CHAND. (A day after Ugadi and Gudi Padwa). This year 2019, Cheti Chand falls on 6th April.
The Sindhi community celebrates this festival in honour of the birth of Ishtadeva Uderolal, popularly known as Jhulelal, the Patron Saint of the Sindhis. The day is considered to be very auspicious and is celebrated with pomp and gaiety all over the Sindhi community. On this day, people worship water – the elixir of life.
