Coca-Cola’s new Ramadan ad wins hearts and goes viral
Brands coming with new advertisements for festivals is not uncommon be it Diwali, Christma or Eid. And very few commercials touch the hearts. Ramzan is around the corner and all the big brands have started airing their new commercials. And most of them don’t even make an effort, if its Diwali burst few crackers behind, Christmas add a Santa claus and if its Ramzan add a few minarets in the background. Very few brands make an effort to come with something different and new. Surf Excel has been trying to do that for few years now, this year the Coca-cola has come out with a heart touching uplifting commercial for the Holy month of Ramadan. It has gone viral with in few hours of launch.
The video features a young Muslim woman who has to endure the challenges and discomfort of fasting in the late afternoon. As a minority, she is also the victim of harsh stares and mockery from passersby. When the female protagonist plans to break fast with the traditional meal of three dates, she is offered a glass of Coke from a supportive passerby. The passerby patiently waits for the sun to set before indulging in the drink with the female protagonist. The video ends with the message “What unites us is bigger than what divides us.”
Reactions from netizens have been positive, with many commenting that the spot was “moving” and “meaningful”. Meanwhile, some pointed out that Coke is not an ideal beverage to break fast with as it is unhealthy.
