Corona Help : Sadhu Vaswani Mission feeds starving wage-workers
Not the virus, it’s the hunger that will kill us, plead the starving wage-workers.
A heart-wrenching tale unfolded in front of the eyes of the volunteers of Sadhu Vaswani Mission as they set out on 28th April to 6 areas that needed dire help: Karve Nagar, Paud road-Kothrud, Singhagad road, Warje, Mhalunge & Vadgaon.
The condition of the daily wage workers, widowed/separated & senior-citizen women was hard to see. Most of them live in a single room in tin-roofed hutments, surviving somehow in the scorching heat, not to forget the acute hunger. They have not received much help. “We were praying to God to send help. It is not the virus but the hunger that will kill our children,” said a starving mother.
165 ration kits were distributed. One ration kit contains 3 kgs rice, 3 kgs aata, 1 kg dal, 1 kg pulses, 1 kg Poha/Upma, 1 kg sugar, 1L cooking oil, 1/2 kg tea. Plus hygiene essentials. The ration kit can last for 10 days for a family of four with 3 meals a day and for more days for smaller families.
“When we went to survey these hutments, some of them did not have a single grain. It was a painful plight which words fail to describe,” said a volunteer.
The workers were so thrilled and thankful to receive the rations that one of them prostrated in front of a volunteer.
“It was a very moving experience and we thank Dada, our Beloved Master, for bestowing his Mercy on all these people,” heaved another volunteer with relief.
