DJJS Celebrates Green Diwali at Nurmahal Ashram, Punjab by Lighting 75,000 Diyas
Diwali is one of the most important festivals in the Hindu calendar and is celebrated in India and the world over with great pomp and fervor. People celebrate it very enthusiastically to commemorate the returning of Lord Rama to his kingdom, Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. This is usually symbolized by lighting of diyas (earthen lamps) in the house and outside. In last few decades, the trend of bursting crackers has evolved. Seems, there is a race of bursting cracker and the one with loudest noise will win. Diwali was never about polluting the eco-system. It is much more than about bursting firecrackers. Diwali marks the victory of good over evil, light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and purity over pollution. It promotes cleanliness and symbolizes celebration but that celebration can never come at a cost of Mother Nature.
Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (“DJJS”) which runs under the guidance of Gurudev Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji (Head & Founder – DJJS) has always been alert and active towards environment sensitive issues and have also taken positive steps in this direction . Taking a step further, DJJS celebrated environment friendly clean and green Diwali at its Nurmahal Ashram, Jalandhar, Punjab. People in large number gathered to celebrate the festival. The entire Ashram was decorated with 75,000 earthen wares and diyas. The Police security people also participated in the Diwali celebration with DJJS by lighting Diyas. The entrance of the Ashram was beautifully decorated with rangolis and flowers. The entire Ashram was beautifully lightened and pathways were decorated with the diyas to remove every single bit of darkness. Hawan Yagya was also performed directing the awakening of the auspicious energies and getting rid of the negative energies surrounding us. The sacred mantras chanted during the Havan created a particular vibration which wards of the evil forces and energies and ushers in the positive forces. In the evening, after the sunset puja of the God of wisdom, Ganesh and Goddess of wealth, Lakshmi was performed seeking their blessings. People sung aarti, devotional songs and mantras praying to God for the happy and prosperous life. After puja, prasad was distributed amongst the devotees.
Taking up eco-friendly measures in every aspect of our life is the need of the hour and not a mere trend. Therefore, DJJS on the eve of Diwali observed and emulated the traditional principle of sustainability to bring back the concept of Recycle, Refurbish, and Reinvent.
