High Court accepts PIL on TTD’s bank deposits

The High Court has admitted a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Rayalaseema Porata Samithi Convenor P. Naveen Kumar Reddy against the alleged misappropriation in bank deposits by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).

Mr. Reddy questioned the TTD’s action in depositing ₹1,000 crore in a private bank which he claimed was a violation of Section 111 (3) of The Andhra Pradesh Charitable and Hindu Religious and Endowments Act – 1987 and sought a direction to the organisation to deposit the funds in a nationalised bank.

According to Mr Reddy the hearing will be taken up on April 24th by Telangana Andhra Pradesh High Court, and all the four respondents should attent the court on that particular day to give explanation over depositing Rs 1000 crore in private bank. He said that none not even Chief minister has the authority to misappropriation of revenue of the Lord. He said that TTD should deposit its revenue in only Nationalised banks and added that violating government norms, the authorities deposited thousands of crores of rupees, allegedly for their vested interests.

The respondents are the Special Chief Secretary and the Commissioner of Endowments Department, the TTD Executive Officer and the Representative of the Private Bank (IndusInd Bank).

Several allegations were made against the bank deposits for which TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal gave a clarification saying they followed the guidelines of the TTD’s investment advisory committee and the government regulations.
