Scientific research oriented study of Vedas need of the hour: Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar at Karnataka Ved Vidwat Sammelan
Over 100 Vedic Scholars come together for a 3 day meet at The Art of Living International Center
19th August, 2018, Bengaluru: Over a hundred Vedic scholars came together for a 3 day “Ved Vidwat Sammelan” at The Art of Living International Center in Bengaluru to discuss the preservation of the oral tradition of Vedic Studies. The eclectic ensemble of scholars came from the different branches of Veda, Vedanga, Upanga and Upavedas to share their views on subjects ranging from Vyakarana, Vaisheshika, Nyaya Shastra, Poorna Mimamsa among others.
Inaugurating the Conference, Gurudev urged scholars to think with a new perspective. He said, “For so long the Vedas have been kept alive by diligent scholars and gurus through the guru-shisya parampara and now the need of the hour is to take a scientific research oriented study of the Vedas by eminent scholars which will bring out the knowledge that the Vedas encapsulate and make it even more relevant for modern times.”
Some of the eminent speakers included Ve.Br. Sri Aruna Avadhani, Ve.Br. Sri Ganesh Joglekar (Gokarna), Ve.Br. Sri Aswath Narayana Avadhani (Mattur), Prof. K. Ramasubramaniam (IIT, Mumbai), Sri Gyanendra Sapkota from Varanasi among others.
The last two proponents of the Shankhayna Shaka of Rig Vedas, Sri Harshad Lal Nagar and Sri Indra Shankar Jha were also present. They expressed their happiness at the effort made by such a conference to revive the oral tradition and wished that with such collective effort it will be possible to preserve and revive some rare knowledge like their own.
Presentations were also made on the Gurukul system of education and how various shakas can benefit from each others experience, as each system is unique. Pracharya Deep Koirala, Chairman Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal- Mission Gurukul, shared that empowering Gurukuls can make them an ideal alternative to the current education system, providing a stress-free envrionment for young minds to develop holistically.
The conference has proposed to form a council which will have eminent scholars from all over Karnataka which can become a platform for the scholars to congregate, share ideas and chalk out a common plan for taking forward the study of Vedas and its knowledge in a systematic manner and preserve it for the future generation.
