Self Quarantine : What essential food items you should keep ?
As Corona pandemic become more serious, we have to take care and self isolate ourselves. In this time we have to be cautious and conscious about our lives and our families. Lets learn how to stock food at our home to Stay Home, Stay Safe.
1- Keep non perishable items like grains – Rice, Wheat/millet flour, poha, vermicelli, Sooji, millets, pulses and lentils and required cooking medium like oil/ghee. Also stock up on dry spices.
2- Perishable items should be keep correctly – Onion, garlic and potatoes should be stored at a cool dry hygienic place. Oranges/Apples can be stored on the counter. Bananas can be stored separate from each other to slow down ripening. Store vegetables in a paper towel in the refrigerator to absorb any extra moisture and extend the shelf life.
3- Keep Immunity boosting superfoods like- Turmeric (raw if possible), garlic, herbal teas/green tea, seeds, nuts, peppercorn, ginger. Tulsi can be grown in our home/kitchen gardens.
4- You can purchase milk powder and store in case of any shortage in the future. Also keep some ready to eat foods handy at home. You can buy khakras, bhuna chana, makhana, nuts, seeds, peanut butter, Khakhras, puffed rice etc. Milk/curd tetra packs, eggs and bread can be stored for a few days.
5- Make Aam, Amla & Neebu pickles and store for the family as it is a great probiotic.
