After the India’s Supreme Court ruled the “Triple Talaq” unconstitutional, Islamic schools in the state of Uttar Pradesh have decided to include the teaching regarding the “correct way” to divorce.
Maulana Shahbuddin Razvi, head of the Jamat Raza-e-Mustafa Islamic organization, said a meeting was held with clerics of several madrassas on how to educate communities on proper methods of divorce.
Razvi said triple talaq, or instant divorce, is against the teachings of Islam and that madrasas will begin incorporating curriculum about divorce practices that conform with Sharia, or Islamic law.
He said hopefully the boys in the madrasa will bring these teachings back to their families and thereby educate the entire Muslim community.
Aleading dargah of the Sunni sect has decided to include it in the curriculum of the madrasas. Head of Darul Ifta Manzar-e-Islam of dargah Ala Hazrat Mufti Sayed Kafil Hashmi said “There are many safeguards as per the Shariat regarding talaq but in a majority of cases they are overlooked and people remain unaware of them. Now the right manner of practising talaq as per the sunnat will be taught to the students of the madrasas,”.
The order will be issued to all madrasas and also the ones run by dargah Ala Hazrat, he said. The dargah has issued a helpline number for such cases, he said.
It was five Muslim women who were divorced through triple talaq that brought the case to the Supreme Court.
