Navaratri is the festival of Goddess Durga, the celebration of Good over Evil. During Navratri Goddess is worshipped in her nine forms. Every state celebrates has its own customs and rituals, Bengalis’s celebrate the Durga puja with lot fervor, and in Maharashta and Gujrat people celebrate with Garba and Dandiya, in Telangana it is celebrated as Batukamma, but what unites all states is the celebration of Nine forms of Goddess. And woman across the country celebrate the nine forms of Durga, wearing different colors of dresses representing the different qualities of the Goddess.

Each day of Navratri celebrates a certain incarnation of the goddess. And according to a custom, each day has a color attached to it. Here are nine colors Hindu women wear during Navratri.

Navarathri Day 1
Devi : ShailaPutri – Colour : Grey
On this day the incarnation of Parvati, called Shailputri, is worshipped. Shailputri represents purity and nature. Gray is the color to be worn.
Navarathri Day 2
Devi : Brahmacharini – Colour : Yellow
Second day of Navaratri celebrates Brahmacharini, the virgin form of Parvati, to signify her purity the color yellow is to be worn.
Navarathri Day 3
Devi: Gayatri – Colour : Red
Third in Navaratri celebrates Gayatri. This form of Parvati rides a tigress and is generally associated with bravery and courage. Hence, the color to be worn is red.
Navarathri Day 4
Devi: Annapurna – Colour : light blue
The fourth day of Navratri goddess Annapurna is worshipped and the color to be worn is Blue.

Navarathri Day 5
Devi: Lalitha – Colour : orange
The fifth day of Navaratri celebrates Lalitha, and the color to be worn is orange
Navarathri Day 6
Devi : Katyayani – Colour : Dark Red.
The sixth day of Navratri Katyayani is worshipped. Katyayani is the form that Goddess Parvarti took when she took on the demon Mahishasura. This is the warrior form of the goddess and the color to be worn is dark red.
Navarathri Day 7
Devi: Saraswathi – Colour : Royal Blue.
Seventh-day of Navaratri celebrates the goddess Saraswathi ans is worshipped as Kalaratri. As Kalaratri, the mother goddess destroyed several demons in her battle against Mahishasura. Kalaratri is the fiercest form of the goddess and the color to be worn is Royal blue.
Navarathri Day 8
Devi: Durga – Colour : Purple
The eight day of Navaratri is Durga Ashtami, the color to be worn on the day is purple.

Navarathri Day 9
Devi: Mahishasuramardhani – Colour : Green
The ninth day of Navratri the goddess is worshiped as Mahishasuramardhani, the goddess who killed the Evil Mahishasura. And the color to be worn on this day is green.
Dussehra
Devi : VijayaDurga – Colour: light orange
The tenth-day Dussera celebrates the Goddess’s victory over the Evil, hence the colour to be worn is light orange.
