Seva: A centre of life making for destitutes

Vishwa Nirmal Prem Ashram

A project for the rehabilitation of destitute women and orphan children By H.H. SHRI MATAJI NIRMALA DEVI FOUNDATION

The H.H SHRI MATAJI NIRMALA DEVI FOUNDATION has been founded by H.H Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi as a Non-Government Charitable Organization (NGO) dedicated to the rehabilitation of the weakest sections of the society, namely destitute women and orphan children, with focus on the girl child without any differentiation of caste, religion, region, race or colour.

Rehabilitation of Destitute Women

Aim: As the mother, women are naturally empowered as the creators and preservers of all humankind. However, some sections among women still remain the weakest and are discriminated against and exploited. The NGO aims to provide temporary shelter and vocational training to such helpless, destitute and abandoned members of the society, and to rehabilitate them for their socioeconomic and spiritual upliftment.

The Project : A home named ‘VISHWA NIRMAL PREM ASHRAM’ is now ready in Greater Noida, U.P. and will provide temporary shelter to about 100 women and orphan children. At VISHWA NIRMAL PREM ASHRAM they will be provided with basic necessities and amenities of life and will also be provided requisite vocational skills, to make them capable of sustaining themselves economically. The NGO will assist trainees in providing suitable employment.

The residents at VISHWA NIRMAL PREM ASHRAM will also be guided spiritually so that they are transformed to a state of inner peace and balance enabling them to face life in a much better way even after they leave Vishwa Nirmal Prem Ashram and are suitably employed to make them self reliant.

We are also planning a Health and Research Centre. It is to provide holistic healthcare, free of cost, to patients using Sahaja Yoga techniques under the guidance of qualified doctors and experts. The project will be started soon.

The construction of the building for the “Vishwa Niramala Prem Ashram” has been completed with the blessings of Shri Mataji and help from Sahaja Yogis without any government or outside help.

H.H. SHRI MATAJI NIRMALA DEVI has inaugurated the building on March 27, 2003 and her divine presence has blessed the Ashram to provide succour and relief to the needy and socially abandoned women and children.

Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi conceived the idea of building this NGO after encountering a group of destitute women during one of her innumerable travels round India. She was enormously moved by their plight and was determined to give such women and their children a decent life.

It was this dream which took the form of Nirmal Prem Ashram in 2003. As the number of needy, abandoned women and girls in India is gigantic and it is the most helpless section of the society.

In Her motherly love and tremendous compassion Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi wanted to uplift such women and girls by giving them shelter, thus helping them integrate into the society.

Our home is run with the help of well-educated and competent staff dedicated to the cause of the NGO and Sahaja Yoga.

Our NGO is supported by volunteers from India and from various other countries. The residents practice meditation regularly to achieve inner balance. It is our continuous effort to show them the way to a happy and bright future.

The Executive Director, Mrs. Gisela Matzer (Oma) is like their grandmother, and showers them with her motherly love which Shri Mataji preaches. Our Co-Director, Mrs Gurdarshan (Nani) has many years of experience as a school principal, and is also a very beloved granny.

And our General Manager Mr. Rajkumar Singh looks overall activities of the Foundation. We are a huge and happy family. Our ‘ aunties ‘ who are like big sisters help the girls in their daily routine, studies and also play with the younger family members. Even though H.H.Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi is not present in person Her divine vibrations and love is very much felt all round the ashram.

What We Do

Each day begins with prayers and ends with talks of Shri Mataji or bhajan singing, to enable the residents to achieve a state of inner peace and balance. About our Chairperson, H.H.Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi:

H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi was born on March 21st, 1923 in Chindwara, Madhya Pradesh, in central India. Her parents played a key role in India ‘ s freedom movement during the British rule. As a child, Shri Mataji lived along with her parents in the ashram of Mahatma Gandhi. He recognized her wisdom and appreciated her immensely. He frequently sought her advice on spiritual matters. H.H. Shri Mataji started Sahaja Yoga in 1970s and has kept a busy schedule, traveling around the world to teach the techniques of Sahaja Yoga meditation. She has demonstrated her capacity to trigger the awakening of the spiritual power in human beings (Kundalini) at an “en masse” level.

Amazingly, without any financial support from any person, Shri Mataji neither charges for Her lectures nor for Her ability to give Self Realisation, nor does one have to become a member of this organisation. Shri Mataji has been recognized worldwide by several prestigious institutions for her selfless work and for the powerful results of her spiritual teachings. In 1994, the Mayor of Brazil’s capital welcomed Shri Mataji at the airport, presenting her with the key to the city, and sponsored all of her programs. In 1995, the Indian Government granted Shri Mataji a one hour primetime television series, broadcast nationally. During the same year, Shri Mataji was an official guest of the Chinese government and was invited to speak at the International Women’s Conference in Beijing. Also in 1995, she was awarded by the Romanian Ecological University an Honorary Doctorate in Cognitive and Para psychological Sciences.

Sahaja Yoga is a meditation method that enables the Kundalini to be awakened spontaneously, that leads to the integration of the individual and all true religions. For details on Sahaja Yoga, please refer to www.sahajayoga.org.in

Apart from this, there are two rooms for ladies accommodation, General manager office, a training hall with sewing machines, small beauty parlour, computers and a library which is open to all the members living in the ashram.

Our Children

The ashram provides shelter to girls who have been unfortunate enough to lose their parents at a young age.

The ashrams houses fifty-four girls ranging from four year old infants to young women of eighteen years and the number is growing rapidly. Only such girls are admitted whose parents have passed away (a formal proof such as death certificates are required to confirm this) and under exceptional circumstances girls whose single parent is incapable of taking care of them due to ill circumstances such as being physically or mentally challenged, are also given shelter.

The girls are provided education in English Medium Schools and based on their talents and interests they are trained in various forms of arts and crafts from a young age. Older girls are given support for further studies and are also helped to find jobs, apart from some being helped in matrimony based on their free will.

These children also enjoy several trips outside the ashram. They are also given a number of opportunities to exhibit their skills and talent by different concerts and programs.

Our Women

“Where the women are respected and respectable, there resides the Gods of our well-being- ” by H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi,Founder of Vishwa Nirmala Prem Ashram and Sahaja Yoga.

The ashram gives shelter to women below forty-five years of age who can provide the death certificate of their husband or a divorce certificate or a copy of police complaint/FIR against the husband. Only those women are considered who have no support from their family members. They have to take a compulsory health test before becoming members of the ashram.

The ashrams aim is not only to provide sustenance for the present but also for the future for these women. With this priority, women are trained to have various skill sets such as tailoring, beauty care, massage, health care, cooking, gardening, candle making and/or computers.

The ashram also tries to arrange any other course outside which cannot be provided within the ashram. These women achieve financial and emotional independence, confidence to earn a livelihood within one or two years. They are also helped to find a job or get into matrimony.
