Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s announcement of a budgetary allocation for tourist amenities for “100 Adarsh monuments” of the archelogical Survey of India (ASI) will get the Warganls’ Ramappa Temple and Golconda Fort a facelift.
The budgetary allocation is to improve amenities for visitors at monuments in the list of ASI for a tourist friendly experience. Though Ramappa Temple and Golconda Fort are not part of the first list of 25, Telangana’s Adarsh Monuments they were listed in the second phase of identifying potential Adarsh Monuments.
The Hyderabad ASI is preparing the budget estimates for providing better amenities for the tourists. According to the The Hindu, the proposals include provisions for updated signage, Wi-Fi, interpretation centres and better security, dustbins, seating for visitors and drinking water, among others. The ASI has in its custody 41 acres of Golconda Fort’s Bala Hisar, eight acres of Katora Houz, 49 towers and eight gateways. It also controls the over 100 acres of the Naya Qila.
Located in the Palampet village in Mulug Taluk, Ramappa Temple is around 67 km away from Warangal is known for its historical richness and architectural excellence. Ramalingeswara temple which is popularly known as Ramappa Temple dates back to 1213 AD. It was built during the reign of Kakatiya kingdom. Dedicated to Lord Ramalingeswara, it is the said to be the only temple in the country which is known by the name of its sculptor, whose name was Ramappa.
Golconda Fort in Hyderabad is an outstanding example of brilliant engineering and magical architecture. The name of the fort has been derived from the Telugu words “Golla” and “Konda” which together means ‘Shepherd’s Hill’. Founded in the approximately 12th Century by the Kakatiya Kings, this massive Golconda Fort with eight gates and 87 bastions was later built by Qutub Shahi Kings.
