Transcendental Meditation (TM)

In the present modern scientific age, it is very fortunate that His Holiness Maharishi Ji has provided the simplest technique of Yoga “Transcendental Meditation” and the technique got scientifically validated through more than 700 Independent researches in about 235 Universities and Research Institutes, in more than 30 countries.

Transcendental Meditation is simple natural effortless technique of Yog based on the eternal knowledge of India, the knowledge of leadership of the whole world for which India is known as “Jagad Guru”. TM technique being simple and easy to learn can be practiced every day 20 minutes morning and evening by any human being irrespective of age, cast, creed, religion, faith, belief, life style or nationality.

The technique provides the benefits of all 8 aspects of “Ashtanga Yoga” in very simple manner and the practitioner experiences the higher states of consciousness as explained in detail by his Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ji. Even though all 8 aspects should be practiced by Individual for complete benefits of Yoga but in the present times when everyone is very busy and stressed, TM becomes most important as it provides the deep rest to the nervous system of Individual, more than even the deep sleep providing the benefits of all other aspects of Yoga and Meditation.

In a short it’s not possible to explain all the innumerable benefits of Transcendental Meditation but to mention in brief the benefits are divided in following four categories.

Full development of mental potential

Psychologists say that every Individual uses only 5-10% of human mental potential of conscious mind while the rest of mind remains hidden as sub consciousness mind. TM evolves the conscious mind of the individual, increases the mental potential by unfolding the subconscious mind. It has been proved through the scientific researches on Transcendental Meditation that the learning ability, IQ, memory, intelligence etc. improves through the regular practice of TM, giving rise to better academic performance and higher grades of University students. TM also increases the working efficiency of the practitioners in various fields. Through the TM thinking of the individual becomes more orderly and in accordance with laws of nature, thereby getting more and more support of nature for the fulfillment of the desires of individual.

Benefits for better health

Transcendental Meditation directly or indirectly provides benefit in all diseases because it has been proved that it provides very deep rest to the nerves system during the practice of TM. It is like watering the roots nourishes the whole tree. Similarly TM provides deep rest more than deep sleep nourishing the whole physiology creating the basis for dynamic action as is popularly said that  “deep rest is the basis of dynamic activity”.

The regular Meditator not only maintains perfect health preventing all the diseases but also becomes more active and efficient in the field of action.

Now a days it is being observed that with the advancement of modern science and technologies and on one hand the materialistic progress is growing but in the same pace the stress and anxiety of human beings is also increasing creating more differences, conflicts and tensions in the society. It has been proved that through the regular practice of Transcendental Meditation the stresses, strain and anxieties are dissolved due to the deep rest gained during Transcendental Meditation and also an orderly Individual interacts more positively with others and with the environment behaving in much more friendly manner.

Contribution to World Peace

Transcendental Meditation is not only beneficial for the person practicing it but the orderly individuals practicing TM produce orderliness for the society and environment. It has been proved and demonstrated by several Maharishi World Peace assemblies around the world that even one percent of population in any society practicing TM together or even square root of 1% of population of any society practicing TM & TM-Siddhi programme (Advance Technique of Transcendental Meditation) together decreases the negativity, crime rate, terrorism and international conflicts. This effect–the field effect of group practice of TM and TM–Siddhi has been named as “Maharishi Effect” by Scientists. TM and its advance techniques can help in creating coherence in society, peace, harmony and all round progress in society.

Principle of the process of Transcendental Meditation: TM is the practical aspect of Science of Creative Intelligence, which Maharishi Ji has established, explaining how every individual human being can tune one’s thinking and action to the intelligence of the whole cosmos through which the nature creates and maintains the ever expanding Universe, thereby getting all the support of nature in all pursuits.

TM is simple, natural, effortless technique as it uses the natural tendency of human mind to always move towards more joy, seeking peace and happiness. Maharishi Ji has explained that source of thought within the Self-Atma of everyone is the reservoir of bliss, peace, creativity, infinite energy and intelligence.

In TM due to its own nature of seeking happiness, mind moves from grosser level of thinking to the subtler level of thinking experiencing the finer levels of thought, unfolding the sub-conscious mind and finally transcending the thought enabling the experience of the source of thought, the Transcendental Consciousness, the pure silent level of Consciousness, explained by modern scientific theories as the Unified Field of all the Laws of Nature. Thus in TM unlike other techniques of meditation no effort is involved, there is no concentration or contemplation, but simply diving within to enjoy bliss making the mind more and more orderly and incorporating the infinite intelligence of nature, while during the process body also gets deep rest due to coordination of mind and body enabling it to lose all the stress, anxiety, and strain through the body’s own nature of throwing everything, which is not good for itself. That is how TM is so simple, easy and natural and brings balance to the whole nervous system, practically applying and establishing the Vedic definition of YOG “ Samatwam Yogmuchyate” balance or equilibrium of mind and physiology is “Yog”.

The process of learning TM is also very simple and only takes about one and half hour every day for 5 consecutive days in following seven steps and from the second day itself the learner stats practicing and enjoying the benefits of the technique.

  • Introductory lecture: In which some of proven scientifically proved benefits of the technique are introduced.
  • Preparatory Lecture: The main principles on which the technique is based, Tradition from which the technique originated and further information to learn the technique is explained.
  • The personal Interview: The teacher gets introduced with the learner.
  • The personal Instruction: The Technique is actually taught after the thanks giving ceremony to the Holy Tradition of Masters.
  • 6. And 7. Validating and verifying the experiences of the learner.

Thus the simple technique of TM is the first basic step to explore one’s own infinite potential through diving deep within and find that all the hymns of Ved, Vedic Literature, Vedic Science and the whole manifest diversified ever-expanding Universe is just the expression of the Self of the individual himself. Maharishi Vedic Science and Technologies are the most practical solution to all the individuals, social, National and International problems being faced by men and the environment in present times and in future.
