The Members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Hindu Dharma Parirakshana Samithi (HDPS) took out a rally in Vijayawada on Friday demanding construction of temples demolished during the Krishna Pushkarams.
They said that the State government had demolished more than 65 temples in and around Vijayawada in Krishna District on the pretext of conducting the river festival in a grand manner.
Speaking to the media, HDPS president Konkalla Viswanadha Rao said that despite several requests, the State Government was yet to take up rebuilding works. The State government had promised to take up construction of five major temples but it is yet to fulfil its promise, he said.
They said that they will bring it to the notice of Bharatiya Janara Party president Amit Shah who will be visiting Vijayawada later this month. VHP and HDPS members said that the sentiments of Hindu was deeply hurt by the demolition of temples which were decades old.
