Hindu Temples on Target ?
There is something seriously wrong with the things happening in Andhra Pradesh, especially with regards to Hindu temples. It is for sure that a systematic campaign to decimate the Hindu temples seems to be designed and executed to the perfection. First it was at Antarvedi, followed by Srikalahasti, then Vijayawada and later damage of Sai Baba idol on the outskirts of Vijayawada.
The most talked and the hot topic in Andhra Pradesh is how safe are Hindu temples? Is there an unperceived threat for their existence? Or is it a ploy to make Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government uncomfortable? Doubts about the planned attack on Hindu temples are evident when we hear today’s news that three lions of Vijayawada Kanakadurga temple’s chariot goes missing!
Who is behind Hindu Temples attacks ?
Though there have been sundry incidents where the temples have been attacked or demolished or some theft has occurred across the state after Jagan ascending the CM seat. But all these seemed to be unplanned and act of some miscreants.
TTD website hacked raises concern
The first systematic campaign on Hindu temples was evident when the Tirumala Lord Venkateshwara temple’s website was hacked and renamed after the god of another faith.
This raged big controversy. The Tirumala Tirupati Devathanams (TTD) board took serious note of this incident and immediately rectified. But people believed that it was planned attack.
The recent incidents have led to more doubts about a systematic attack being launched on Hindu temples by some “outside force”. The state government has to take these incidents more stringently and act swiftly; else there is problem of communal difference arising in the state which is free from such incidents.
Wooden chariot of the Antarvedi temple targeted
It all started with the 62-year-old wooden chariot of the Antarvedi temple being gutted in a fire in the wee hours of September 6. The 40-feet high chariot made of teak wood was parked in a shed on the temple premises. The chariot is normally used only during the Rathotsavam at the Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy’s celestial wedding festivities.
The Chief Minister’s Office release said that, “There has been malicious propaganda against the government by certain political forces in the social and mainstream media questioning the sincerity of the state police forces, though they have been going out to unearth the conspiracy behind the chariot burning.”

The release further stated that, “Since some political parties have demanded a CBI probe into the incident, Andhra Pradesh CM has decided to entrust the case to the CBI for a transparent inquiry.”
Who is disturbing Hindu Temples ?
Another incident in Srikalahasthi temple is adding fuel to the thought that there is a sustained campaign to disturb Hindu temples in the state. It is reported that two unidentified men carried bags and entered the temple on September 8 and installed the idols of Shiva and Nandi, each weighing about seven kilograms, and ran away. This has led to new tension in the temple town. Interestingly, no one noticed this until September 11, when it was removed and police complaints were filed.
Are all these part of a larger conspiracy? Or are we reading too much into these incidents? Whatever is the reason, there is a perceived threat for temples in the state and it is upon the CM to remove this feeling, which will take time and not an easy task!
