Mizoram’s Baptist Church decides to have more children to protect faith and tradition

Aizawl: The Baptist Church of Mizoram (BCM), the second-largest Christian denomination in the state, has urged its members to have more children, emphasizing that a higher birth rate will benefit both the state and the church.

During its 129th assembly, the BCM’s highest decision-making body, delegates passed a resolution encouraging married couples within the church to expand their families. The resolution highlighted concerns over Mizoram’s declining population and its potential impact on the state, society, and religious institutions.

Call to Address Population Decline

“If the Mizo population continues to decline at the current rate, it will have disastrous consequences in the near future, affecting not just society and the state but also religion and the church,” the assembly delegates stated. They stressed the need to raise awareness about the importance of increasing the population.

The move aligns with a similar appeal made earlier by the Mizoram Presbyterian Church, reflecting growing concerns within the Christian community about demographic changes.

Addressing Social Issues

In addition to advocating for a higher birth rate, the BCM also plans to tackle major social issues affecting the state. The church has announced that dedicated local church committees will work on combating problems such as drug addiction, HIV/AIDS, and corruption.

The decision underscores the church’s commitment not only to preserving faith and tradition but also to addressing societal challenges for the welfare of Mizoram’s people.
