Pope Francis continues to recover from bilateral pneumonia at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, according to the Holy See Press Office. Officials stated that the Pontiff had a peaceful night and remains in a stable condition while resting.

Despite being hospitalised, Pope Francis continues to fulfil his spiritual commitments. He is actively participating in the Vatican’s annual Spiritual Exercises through video conferencing from his hospital room. This weeklong Lenten retreat is being led by Fr. Roberto Pasolini, OFM Cap., the Preacher of the Papal Household. The Pope’s participation is a testament to his dedication to his pastoral duties, even while undergoing medical treatment.

Over the weekend, doctors observed gradual improvements in the Pope’s condition. His treatment regimen includes respiratory and motor physiotherapy, and he has now progressed to a solid diet as prescribed by his doctors. However, given the complexity of his condition, medical experts remain cautious about his complete recovery.

Pope Francis, 88, has been hospitalised since 14 February, initially due to bronchitis, which later developed into double pneumonia. Considering his age and medical history, doctors expect his recovery to be slow.

Meanwhile, devotees and well-wishers continue to gather outside the hospital, offering prayers and blessings for the Pope’s health. The Vatican has expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and assured the faithful that regular health updates will continue.
