Christian/Muslim Interfaith Christmas Event

Galway to mark the significance of Jesus for Christians and Muslims

While Jesus is the central figure in Christianity, it is widely unappreciated that Jesus is also one of the major figures in Islam, and deeply revered by Muslims. Jesus will be at the centre of a Christian/Muslim interfaith event in Galway.

The Galway Quaker community will hold an Interfaith Christmas service on Wednesday December 19 at 7pm in St Nicholas Parochial School Hall, Woodquay. There will be readings from the Old and New Testaments and the Qur’an. All are welcome.

Although Muslims do not specifically celebrate Christmas, it is common to hear Muslims greet Christians with with expression “Eid Milahd al-Masih” (“Happy celebrations of the Birth of the Messiah” ). Richard Kimball, one of the organisers of the event said: “Celebration of the birth of Christ and exploration of the meanings of Christ’s mission offers Muslims and Christians a great opportunity for dialogue and building friendships. As Christians, let’s reach out to our Muslim neighbours as fellow believers in Christ. It could mark the beginning of a wonderful faith journey.”
