Mahant Swami Maharaj First trip to New Jersey as a Spiritual Successor of BAPS

Devotees and well-wishers from across the northeastern United States, came together in honor of Mahant Swami Maharaj’s first trip to New Jersey as the spiritual successor of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha. In 2014, Pramukh Swami Maharaj visited Robbinsville to inaugurate the mandir and bless devotees. Since his passing in August 2016, devotees across North America eagerly awaited to receive Mahant Swami Maharaj and seek his blessings as their new Guru.

As the last stop in his 2017 North America tour, Mahant Swami Maharaj’s visit culminated in 28 days of festivities and cultural programs. The programs included special events for the youth (Bal-Balika Din, and Kishore-Kishori Din and Yuvak-Yuvati Din), as well as a cultural event for women (Mahila Din).

Devotees had the opportunity to celebrate the Hindu festivals of Ganesh Chaturthi and Jal Jhilani, installation of the first pillar of Swaminarayan Akshardham Stambh Pujan as well as the inauguration of the Ghanshyam Maharaj Abhishek Mandapam at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Robbinsville, NJ and consecration of Shri Ghanshyam Maharaj murti at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Edison, NJ. Mahant Swami Maharaj’s visit provided an opportunity for devotees to honor the legacy, life and work of Pramukh Swami Maharaj. During his visit to New Jersey, Mahant Swami Maharaj scattered the holy ashes of Pramukh Swami Maharaj in the Hudson River as a tribute to his Guru’s social and spiritual service in North America since 1979.

In the months leading up to Mahant Swami Maharaj’s visit, children,youths and adults volunteered countless hours to make the festivities possible. Preparations included planning cultural programs, designing decorations, food preparations for every event, building various structures on the campus to accommodate the upcoming festivities, organizing transportation and parking facilities, arranging accommodations for out-of-state guests, etc. The 28 days of festivities provided people of all ages the opportunity to connect with and learn from Mahant Swami Maharaj’s spiritual wisdom through seva and discourses.
